Lily Allen Wins Damages Over Fake Interview

Friday, October 8, 2010

Lily Allen has accepted damages from the publisher of a football magazine about a fake interview in which she was quoted making offensive remarks about David and Victoria Beckham and Ashley and Cheryl Cole.

The singer's lawyer Mark Thomson said the publishers accepted Allen, 25, had not given any such interview and they had agreed to apologise and also "pay the claimant damages and legal costs."

Thomson said So Press now accepted "that the claimant did not make the statements attributed to her in their magazine and that, contrary to their previous understanding of the position, no interview in fact took place with the claimant."

Richard Dugdale, a lawyer representing the magazine, said it offered "sincere apologies to the claimant for the damage, as well as the upset and embarrassment caused to her by the publication of the article."

The court heard that the statements were repeated in an article in tabloid The Sun the same month.
